Port Stephens offers endless opportunities for photographers, from amateurs right through to professionals. The natural beauty of the area includes Port Stephens Harbour (2.5 times larger than Sydney Harbour and home to approximately 160 bottlenose dolphins year round), Tomaree National Park with coastal bushland, walking tracks (and Tomaree Headland which offers amazing views across the Bay and up and down the coast), sunrises, sunsets, marinas, jetties, rock pools, rock walls and 26 beaches (both surf beaches and sheltered water beaches)... plus the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes which cover an area of 4,200 hectares along 32 kilometres of surf beach, with dunes rising up to 40 metres high.
From June to November Port Stephens also has around 12,000 Humpback whales migrating right past our coastline, in February, March and April the Bay is filled with boats for gamefishing and trailerboat fishings tournaments and 'Sail Port Stephens,' and there are a number of festivals and events throughout the year. Don't limit yourself to above the water either, the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park has some amazing life underwater (in particular at Fly Point, Halifax Park, The Pipeline and Broughton Island).
